Solved Stuck at preparing to configure Windows Do not turn off your computer

Everything seems fine but it was a real struggle.

Never had an experience like that in my life. Working on two computers didn't make it any better.

Really glad to hear it. Congrats on your success.

Enjoy Win7!
Thanks
I am now seated at the computer which has the new Windows 7. Last time I installed it was September 13th. Didn't survive very long, did it?

I would look then at your tools and methods. If you'll stick with the same tools and methods in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 then you'll get and keep a perfect install for as long as you do.

No one in my circle of friends and family who I've helped do this install has ever needed to replace it, and few even need to repair or restore it using the tools and methods given.

But be sure to save the backup image so you can reimage it in 20 minutes if it becomes irreparable. Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup
Macrium - Image your system

Having a backup in real time also assures you don't need to worry about file loss, and you can even use this free method to sync your files across any/all of your devices: Sync, Backup and Store your Files to the Cloud with Skydrive - Windows 7 Forums

Thank you for all the help.

It is most appreciated.

I had a problem with KB2862330 as well. This is an update for USB drivers/kernel-mode drivers and it causes problems on some PCs. On the Microsoft Answers Forum, many others have complained about problems with this update.

In my case It caused a blue screen stop:0x000000CA after restart. I had to do a disk image restore and then I installed each update one at a time. Very tedious. When I got to KB2862330, it installed, then after restart, I got the same Blue Screen. KB2862330 was definitely the culprit. I did another disk image restore, skipped installing KB2862330 and installed the remaining updates. No more Blue Screen and now my PC is running normally again as it was before.

Another botched update by Microsoft. They should have tested this update more thoroughly.

Can you email me at susan-at-msmvps.com?
I need some log files from you. They can be large so I can set up a way to get them transfered to Microsoft.
a. Obtain a full dump from affected computers

b. %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log

c. %windir%\inf\setupapi.dev.log

d. Regkey PendingFileRenameOperations (HKLM\System\Controlset001\control\session manager)

e. Check if the machine has MSKB 2533552 installed.

f. Document the repro steps that lead to the blue screen

Can you email me at susan-at-msmvps.com (change the -at- to @) and we'll make arrangments to get the following log files emailed to Microsoft
They need the following info:
· %windir%\inf\setupapi.dev.log
· %windir%\inf\setupapi.ev*
· %windir%\inf\setuppi.app.log
· %windir%\\Logs\CBS\*.* (Share all files in this directory, even the cab files)
· %windir%\WindowsUpdate.log
· The output hotfix.txt from wmic qfe > hotfix.txt (type in at a command prompt wmic qfe >hotfix.txt )

No, but it took me three days to install 21 updates.

I think I spent all of 10 minutes on that computer.

Hi Susan, welcome to 7F! :)

On 7F the usual procedure is to attach uploaded files that need checked, into the original poster's (OP's) next reply, it may seem a little standoffish to have members email them directly to you, although this may be easier for you it goes against the grain of 7F. It is a matter of semantics with what you are used to over a Microsoft Answers, and what is allowed here.

I haven't had problems with KB2862330 simply because I didn't install it although I do have concerns with the security of my USB ports.

It wasn't checked when I went to install the latest patch Tuesday and when I checked up on it with an online search I found a lot of users with problems, maybe because of the requirement of having to do a double re-boot that a lot of users machines couldn't handle.

I also did not have problems with kb 2859537 | SevenForums Thread it was installed along with the other patch tuesday updates in august.

If you need any assistance please respond here or on my profile page, if it helps, my system specs are filled out in case you need to know what type of machine I work with. (click on "my system specs" in the lower left corner of my post)
