I have 4 updates minus the IE 11 upgrade which I have no intention of installing, which keep failing. Not only do they keep failing but the system reboots several times before I can get back to my desktop screen.
The updates are KB2868725, KB2868626, KB2862152, and KB2900986. The first 3 are security updates for Windows 7, the last is a cumulative update for ActiveX Killbits of 7.
Let me start with I'm no computer wiz, that is why I had my updates set to auto. It sorts what I really need versus a bunch of stuff I don't. I downloaded the Update readiness tool and ran it. I also ran the troubleshooter for installation problems it says there are no problems. It still does the same thing. Does it restart to revert each update? I've clicked on the online help links but have no idea what they are talking about and when I see the word "registry" I back away. I messed with the registry on an old PC (with the assistance of a Microsoft Tech) and my PC never ran right after that.
I don't get the box like is pictured in the posting instructions that shows the error codes. If I right click on the "failed" line for each I get the following error codes. They correspond with the above sequence of KB's #1 is 8007054F #2 is 80073AA2 #3 is 800F0826 #4 is the same as #3. I have enclosed the logs files, hopes this helps, cause I sure need it!!:o
I really don't have time for this. I've already lost an entire morning today and an entire morning yesterday trying to get these installed. I've turned off the auto update so it can't keep setting it up to install.

OOOPS I forgot torun the SFC step. it says it found corrupt files and repaired them. Going to reboot and see if that makes any difference.

I registered just to say you are not alone. I also got repeated BSOD on this latest batch of security updates (windows home premium 64bit). I found a hit which implied it was kb2868626 that was the problem. I installed just kb2875783, kb2868725, kb2876331 and kb2862152 and the system rebooted ok after. Decided to give kb2868626 another try on its own and it worked! ???

Not sure what this really tells us, but if you were stuck like I was try installing all the other updates first, worked for me

You have an interesting selection of errors in the CheckSUR scan
Code:

I'll post a fix for the file errors later - then we can work on the registry problems.

SFC found and fixed only one problem -

However there are a mass of errors in the background CBS data - which may be related to the registry problems.

See you later :)

Incidentally - the errors here appear to be from a 32-bit install, but your System Specs say 64-bit?

I've uploaded a file - ibtaa.zip - to my SkyDrive at Noel's SkyDrive
Please download and save it.
Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…
Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder ibtaa in the same place.
Open this folder - there should be one folder inside it (Packages)

Copy the content of the Packages folder to the folder
C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

Then run another SFC /SCANNOW and post the CBS.log file

Also, zip your C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS file (no extension) and upload it to your favourite fileshare site (preferably DropBox or SkyDrive) and post a link (it'll be too big for the servers here)

Thanks for the quick reply. I have some work I have to get done today because I got so far behind messing around with these stupid updates. Will try to get to this today though.
Here is a screen shot of my specs, Isn't this a 32 bit system??? Did I download something for the wrong system someplace along the line?

Sorry - my fault - I forgot to mod the instructions  !
One folder is correct here - there's only the Package files to replace.

Yep, your system is 32-bit, but your entry in the Forum's System Specs fields said x64 - I see you've updated it now? (Either that, or I got my threads mixed! :))

The part I highlighted in red is what I don't understand??
I ran a new sfc, no problems. Here is the new CBS log;
I have never used skydrive or etc. I have the components file uploaded. Not sure how to send you a link? I don't do social networking. I have too much work and very little time. Besides I don't feel the need to be that connected to anybody:roflmao:

If you've uploaded the file, simply have the page open in your browser and copy the page address (htttp://....) and paste it in your reply here.

The CheckSUR scan did what we expected - fixed the file error - but unfortunately that was all it did. I had hoped that correcting that would reduce the number of other problems.

Sorry I didn't get back to this yesterday. I have a proposal on a new kitchen to present to a client tomorrow. I had hoped to have 3 different set ups to show them. Going be busy again today:rolleyes:. I apologize also for my lack of knowledge on this stuff. At one point I knew it like the back of my hand. I built this system, you'd think I could figure out how to fix it! Any how here is the like to my skydrive. Didn't even know I had one, thanks, now I know.

That's just the basic link to SkyDrive - I need the one that's showing when you are displaying your file -

you can right click on the file in your browser, and select 'Sharing', then click the Get a Link option and make the file View Only and click the Create button there.
copy the link that then shows in the overlay to your reply.

The good news is that I can see no obvious major errors in the components file - so this should ultimately be fixable.

Now we need to do some registry manipulation.
Have you ever used Regedit? - how comfortable are you with it?

If you're reasonably OK with it then follow these instructions (If you're a total beginner, shout, and I'll go into more detail). As always BE CAREFUL - mistakes in the registry cannot be easily undone, and there are almost no built-in safeties.

Open Regedit, and navigate to the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
subkey - find the
Component Based Servicing
subkey, and right-click on it - select Export
give the export a name, and change the 'save as type' to Registry Hive Files

Save it to somewhere safe, then exit Regedit

Now compress the saved file, and upload it to your reply.
