sudden changes of font and screen size?

I will be using my laptop in a variety of settings (Word, FB, IE browsing etc.) when suddenly the font will change size and become very small or the screen will become quite large and my scroll bars will completely disappear. I use the mouse pad and do not use a mouse. Is there a setting to change or am I doing something specific. I never had this issue using XP. Thanks.

Holding down the Ctrl key and using the virtual scroll on the mouse pad (wheel on a regular mouse) witll increase or decrease the size of things, perhaps you are inadvertently doing that?
