Suddenly No Connections Available

I've been running Windows 7 and connecting to my wireless router for a few months with absolutely no problems at all. Suddenly a couple of days ago the wireless stopped working and it can't see any connections. There used to be a few it could see, but now not even one!

I know the router is ok because I can access it wirelessly with my iPhone. I also know the hardware is ok on the laptop because I swapped the hard drive with an old XP one and the wireless worked perfectly.

What else I've checked/done...
Checked the wireless card is on at the switch and the Tosh function key setting
Checked the adapter is enabled
Checked the device...Windows says its working normally
Updated the adapter drivers
Looked at any Windows updates, there didn't appear to be any at that time that could be causing problems
Switched off the firewall/virus checker
Ran a malware and virus scan.
Logged on as a different user
...none of which have sorted it.

Any suggestions? My next step is to rebuild from scratch, but I'm obviously keen to avoid this if possible.

It would appear the only one I have is after the Windows update this morning! Hence after the problem appeared...grrr

mine work again!

okayyy i had the same problem just like a moment ago haha.
i seriously tried everything the internet told me. update the drivers or use the command prompt. so the thing that i did and read in this page, was that i went to control panel>system and security>system>device manager
search for network adapters and right clicked atheros ar9285 and click properties.
i uninstalled that and all of the sudden my battery ran out so it reboot or restart, when it restart, my atheros driver re install again and my connection worked again so anyone who reads this should try it i hope it helps good luck
