Solved Suddenly Portable ssd T3 drive can only be written to on windows 10

On my windows 7 machine all of the sudden I can not write to my Samsung Portable 250 SSD T3 it says that “the volume is DIRTY “ on my windows 7 computer. Windows 10 is not having a problem.

The drive and gives me this error 0x80071AC3 on windows 7 and windows 7 is saying that The drive volume is DIRTY Suddenly I can not create a new folder on BOTH of my portable ssd drives. They now only work on my windows 10 computer. Any ideas of what might be going on here ?

Try running Disk Check here's how;

When windows starts it writes a dirty bit to the disk and when shut down it clears it if it's not cleared you need to let chkdsk complete to clear it

The "dirty bit" could be because you have win-10 fast start enabled in power options and or did not disable hibernation using cmd ?

Can this be caused by uplugging the drive without going throught the tediouse process making the "its now safe to unplug your drive" come up.
So far I have not had any trouble by unplugging my usb deveics without goign through the hassle. I just make sure its done with its copy first.

Also This is a SSD external drive. I thought it was not a good idea to run chkdsk on these type of drives.
Also the powercfg -h off command- If this is the case why doesnt windows 10 recognize the problem and only windows 7 ?

You should never disconnect any usb device without safe to remove.. = ever unless you shutdown.
Win-10 shutdown is more like hibernation unless hibernation is completely disabled.

As stated reboot into 10 with the device connected if it is all good disable hibernation them completely shutdown.

As mentioned, schedule a check disk chkdsk c: /f
Also, under win 7, do a System File Check. Open a CMD window and type sfc /scannow

I read that the purpose for this safely eject button was to prevent pulling the drive out while its being written to.-- OR if multiple people are using the Computer and someone has a word doc open on the flash...
Or are there other reasons that I am not aware of. ?

I have been digging on google... I dont find right off what -h is That turns Hibernation OFF. right ? In this case are you saying that if the external ssd is plugged in and it goes in and out of hibernation it will write A dirty bit ?

No the word off does though
Substitute on for off and hibernation is on

It can write a dirty bit if sharing with another os like win-7.

So I did try to run chkdisk on these t3 solid state external drives on win 7 and it "can not complete it" I ran the REPAIR disk that comes up on win 10 and now the problem with the drive on win7 has vanished I can now write to my disk on win 7.
I really should try understand what is going on here.
is there a real reason for windows 10 to be writing something to my drive that makes it incompatible with windows 7 ? Are they trying to push windows 10 upgrades by doing this. ? -

Hi,
Check disk on that large of a drive would take a very long time to complete even if it did successfully complete
The hibernation feature puts the drive to deep sleep which win-7 can not wake it up to complete or even start to check disk I would imagine so it errors out.

It's just a new feature of win-10 hibernation/ Fast startup nothing more
Just disable fast startup/ hibernation in win-10 and be done
Most mother boards are not compatible with the 10 feature/ Intel rapid storage feature anyway.
