Suffering from random BSOD

Hi, ever since I bought my system (January this year) I have experiences seemingly random BSODs. At first they occurred about once every few days, but recently they have become much more frequent. Typically whenever I do a cold boot and have logged in, after a few minutes the system crashes. Most often with a BSOD, sometimes just a reboot. As I said, recently it has become more frequent, and also starting to occur after having been logged in for some time. I decided that - before I ask my supplier to have a look - to try it on this forum ...

Some information on the system:
It is a custom built system running the original Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit(retail)
Processor i7-860
MSI P55-GD65 - Motherboard - ATX - iP55
Corsair XMS3 - Memory - 8 GB ( 4 x 2 GB ) - DIMM 240-pins - DDR3 - 1333 MHz / PC3-10600 - CL9 - 1.5 V
XFX Radeon HD 5870 - Graphics adapter - Radeon HD 5870 - PCI Express 2.0 - 1 GB GDDR5
OCZ Vertex Series - Harddisk - 60 GB - intern - 2.5" - SATA-300 -buffer: 64 MB
Samsung SpinPoint F3 Desktop Class HD103SJ - Hard disk - 1 TB - intern - 3.5" - SATA-300 - 7200 rpm -buffer: 32 MB (x4 in RAID0)
Antec Performance One P183

All drivers are checked and up to date. Memory tests: no issues (was my obvious first guess as cause of the problem).

I would be so very grateful if someone could have a look ...

What make and wattage is your Power Supply? It says Corsair HX750W - ATX12V 2.3 in your profile. Can you disconnect some stuff to see if that helps?

I've just recently read about dual and tri channel DDR3 RAM and mobo's that can handle both. Have you checked to make sure that you have the correct type of RAM for your mobo?

Your mobo is dual-channel, but I don't have the exact model number of your XMS3 memory to tell if it's dual or tri channel. This quote is from the Corsair FAQ:

» Can I use a triple channel memory kit on a dual channel system? A » Absolutely, but we can’t make any guarantees as to the performance of tri-channel modules in a dual channel system as they’re not tested in this manner.

750W is more than enough for that system, that setup should suck down no more than 600.

If you are running triple channel setup then that might be causing some issues, as it is a dual channel board. A triple channel kit usually consists of 3 dimms, not four, however.

Hi LiquidSnak and Usasma, thanks for looking into this. Memory is a four-DIMM kit, so should be dual channel then, right? Will check the box they came in, to make sure though.

Doing the dump file analysis might still be worth the effort I guess.

Hi, well Usasma and LiquidSnak, I've had a look at the memory banks. There are indeed four of them. So, fair to assume they are double channel? Right?
Usasma, I've followed your advice and tried to upgrade the Razer driver. When the installation came back with the notification that I had the most recent drivers, I decided to get rid of them completely (and temporarily use a plain mouse). I thus got rid of all Razer software... However, to no avail...

I can even say, things went from bad to worse (probably nothing to do with uninstalling the Razer, though). I had two further dumps but several crashes that did not generate a dump at all. The system went dark and rebooted.

So, I've started to run the driver verifier. No luck so far as I've had only black screen scrashes (no dumps). For now, I have included the two dumps after the Razer driver removal, as well have run another system overview (in safe mode...)

When I have the driver dumps, I'll post them later.

Im not at my regular machine so all I can do is to tell you there are still drivers that need updating including the RAID (storage). These were all dated prior to win 7 release.

There didnt appear to be any pertinent info contained in the dumps but I couldnt analyze them

How To Find Drivers:

- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.
