I would think, a good testup, with no software installed (except Windows), 6GB ram, SSd's and no additional hardware attached - he he he!

Mind you can get a real decent boot with Hiberation.

Mind you can get a real decent boot with Hiberation.

FYI, Hibernation is not a "boot"...booting means reinitialization of hardware and software, and hibernation does not do this. You simply come back right where you were when you went into hibernation.

My boot is a little over 30 seconds. About 20 for the BIOS and 15 for windows.

An SSD will get you a pretty screaming boot time, past that there are a few BIOS tweaks you can do to speed up the boot time there but your pretty much at the mercey of the MB BIOS :(

Phoenix is claming to be coming out with a one second BIOS boot, meaning you coul dbe at the desktop in 10-15 seconds but they have actually been trying to get that off the ground in one form or another for at least three years now. Not sure if/when it'll actually be available.

Google "Phoenix Fast Boot"

My gaming system boots in under 35 seconds, however there is nothing installed on it except drivers, games, benchmarks, and copy protection technologies. No pdf reader, no codecs, nothing.

A very fast POST is the most important factor here to hit those numbers. Most SSD drives can provide the rest of what you need...but without a super fast POST...you fall outside of those numbers.

Most laptops post really fast. So, a Dell laptop with an SSD should put you right around 20 seconds pretty easily.
