Surface test on SSD

One of the options with Mini Tool Partition Wizard is the hdd surface test. I use this to check for bad sectors and it is useful to have a bit of warning of impending disaster. The pc that I am using at the moment has a WD RE4 which is not perfect. There was an error in a block which I "repaired?" using Windows error checking and it no longer shows in the surface test. I run Crystal Diskinfo regularly which also shows ok now when it didn't before. Would it be wise to run the surface test on an SSD?

No surface to test on a SSD. Having one bad sector does not mean the HDD well fail soon. Check the disk with Hard Disk Sentinel, better reporting.

Thanks for the info, I was not sure about ssd testing and will try out your recommendations. As for the RE4, as it is the only drive on my Win 7 Ult in conjunction with a Sandisk Readycache. I like to check it in case any more faults show up. Some people would not chance such a hdd as a boot drive.

If you start to see sector errors or write errors then you should replace the drive asap.

There is a lot of statistical information from SMART on HDD failure rates. It shows a random sector error does not increase the likelihood of failure. When you start to see 2-3 or more is when you have a dieing HDD.

The program Hard Disk Sentinel gives excellent reporting on this and the HDS forum discusses this in length.
