Syncing Libraries Between Homegroup Computers

I have two computers:

1. A laptop running Win 7 HP 64-bit
2. A desktop running Win 7 Pro 64-bit

There are on the same homegroup.

I am wondering if there is a way to sync the libraries on each. So, for example, if I change a file in 'Documents' on the laptop, the file in 'Documents' on the desktop will change. Or, if I add a song to 'Music' on the desktop, the song will be added to 'Music' on the laptop. Get it?

If any of you know if this can be done, please let me know. And if it can, how?

Thanks!

The Msoft SyncToy is made just for this and works well for me. The second link shows you how to use it.

SyncToy 2.1 is a free application that synchronizes files and folders between locations. Typical uses include sharing files, such as photos, with other computers and creating backup copies of files and folders.

Okay, so far this is a huge help. I have a question, though. When I am setting up SyncToy it asks me to select the folders I want sycronized on the right and the left. I try to select 'Libraries' and it won't allow me to. It won't even let me choose 'Documents' under 'Libraries'. Can I only sync subfolders and not the complete library?

Also does SyncToy have to be on both machines, or will that just create some crazy loop?

Sync Toy

I had been wishing for something like this. Works great. Selecting folders problem could be permission problems. You may have to set permissions on the folders you want synced as well as sharing may need set. Also the readme has some install tips. I only installed on one computer.

See Libraries aren't where the files are stored, Libraries are just picture icons that represent files stored in your User folders. Library's are very useful because you can show files and folders from different drives all in one location.

The actual files are stored in your User folders and those are the ones you need to sync with, as in Computer\local disk C:\Users\Rob\My Documents

You can also use Briefcase to sync.

You should be able to find more answers at the Sync center forum

Thanks, man. You helped me a lot. I figured that I had to go to the actual folder. Let me know if you ever come to Canada and I'll treat you to a beaver tail or something.
