System error 66 when printing from XP Virtual machine

Sorry not sure what subsection to put this in.


I know XP is outdated, but we have a special program that only works on it.



We have a program that is on XP on a server. That server is hard wire connected to our main server. We have Windows 7 computers connected to the main server through ethernet. On 1 of the computers we have a Windows XP virtual mode set up through Windows 7. We have an old printer, an Okidata Microline 320 Turbo. This program on the server has to print a receipt to this printer that is connected to the local computer. One day it messed up and won't print any more.


The printer works, I managed to connect it and do a test print from the Virtual XP mode, so I know the printer physically works. But when we try to print from this program it is giving an error. "System error 66 has occurred. The network resource type is not correct."


If anyone can help I would be so grateful! Right now we're writing receipts by hand.

1. Is the printer set to be shared?

2. Is the share name correct? Verify that the share name is correct. The printer objects name can be different from what the share name is.

From the Control Panel, if you go to the properties of the printer and look sharing tab you will see the name of the share.

From a CMD prompt, you can use the net view \\<servername> to see what resources is being shared by <servername>. Hopefully your printer should show up. Go into Print Properties of your program and ensure that this is the printer that is chosen.

3. Check your options in the Network Settings for XP Mode (Windows 7 side).
If you get a 169.x.x.x IP address in XP Mode, there are several things that could be the issue:
A. The network card selected is not the active NIC
B. There are no DHCP servers available to lease an IP address or there are no available IP addresses on your network.

Try ising the ip instead of the name
