Hey Guys,

I'm using a Geforce 6100 sm-m mobo, which runs AWARD BIOS. In the process of upgrading to windows7, I decided to do some other hardware upgrades and thought that adding a system fan would cool it down.

The problem is my new system fan is screaming at 4400 to 4500rpm. I followed the help file instructions which came with speed fan and that doesnt seem to work for my mobo. Is there anyway, I can control my system fan? I only have the SMART fan feature in the BIOS, which I think only seems to control the CPU fan.

Thanks

There are a ton of programs on the market, the most popular of which is Speed Fan. If you cannot get that to work then you're going to need to search for something else. Just throw "Fan Speed Control" into google and you'll find something. Also, make sure that you've got the latest drivers for your motherboard/chipset before you give up on SpeedFan.

Also, you may have plugged the fan into the wrong connector which may be why it is running at such a high speed, normally your fans will speed up and down depending on your computer's internal temperature sensors.

Dont think I plugged it in the wrong connector because my mother board only has 1 socket for a system fan. (number 21 on the mobo manual haha) The other fan socket is a 4 pin socket for the cpu fan and thats right next to the cpu.

I have the latest BIOS installed, maybe need to upgrade the drivers though. I was hoping that I could adjust the settings for it in the BIOS somehow and not through another interface software like speedfan :( .

Thanks for your reply.

What would happen if I plug it in the other way around though? Would that make a difference? I might have done something silly like that haha
