If I boot normally and try to open any app, I get the rotating green circle indicating the system is busy. This will continue for 2 hours that I know. I can't open Task Managerand I have to power down and then reboot into safe mode with networking and everything appears to work. I'm using this mode to access Win 7 forums because I can't in regular boot. I have rum ASC, Malewarebytes, Microsoft's safety scanner, AVG2013 and I have uninstalled adaware that I thought might be a conflict. Any suggestions?

I have found the problem and it was apparently a conflict with a recent update to Zone Alarm that included a security app. I uninstalled it everything appears to working properly. Thanks for the link. I have copied it for use in the future.

Yes I would uninstall Zone Alarm, and install MSE or AVG

We've never seen anything here about Zone Alarm but problems, same with AVG which no one here recommends or ever has since it went south about 10 years ago.

First positive comment I've read about AVG here since before Win7 was released. It is considered buggy bloatware ever since it bloated up nearly 10 years ago and never slimmed back down, was superceded in favor by Avast and now MSE.

How long have you been using it Benjy?

Have been using it for about a year or 2 now, have the internet security now and it works great even for browsing. Detects funny websites anything tha tries to access you network also it removes. Also makes my pc faster.

Have you compared it with MSE to know for sure it isn't slowing down your system?

Ok have did a test there slight bit of a faster load up when in windows. (Programs open about 10 seconds quicker than it would normally would.)

But then what about the protection?

You'd really have to have someone who gets infected to compare the two's efficacy. What I do is have those Typhoid Mary/Harry types add Malwarebytes Real Time protection to MSE. Changing to Avast doesn't seem to make much difference. You'd have to have them try AVG instead to see if they get infected, those who regularly do.

I don't trust or believe in any of the ratings as they are all commercialized. Our experience here is much more valuable, which is why I trust all of use settling on MSE, closely trailed by Avast.

I'm glad you brought this up since many of us also seem somewhat betrayed by AVG after it was so highly favored as the best free AV during the XP years, until it swelled up and began to affect performance on that era's hardware. A similar contempt is expressed toward Spybot with its buggy TeaTimer that seemed to ruin it as a favorite all at once.
