System recovery in How does it work? Privacy?

Hey Peoples, I was wondering how Systemrecovery in Win 7 actually works>>.
Did one a few days ago and my Win 7 did a magic recoveryto a october install.
All was there..... (My old annoying antivirus lol and all data and .exe thiings i had installed) Which made me wonder how this actually works....
....i mean i did several reg clleaners, had many folders cutted out in my program files folder and pasted on my usbstick, deleted al my cookies in Firefox and Ie.
Deleted values in regedit...and i deleted several index.dat files via Index Dat Spy.
(Just for the location on my pc) .

My actual question is how my computer with awesome windows 7 can recover all the applications, links if they are not any more on the hdd , not in regedit ....

Made me a bit paranoid actually.....lol i guess i'm probably missing out on many details...heads the expression that Windows 7 is just magically great. I love it

The recovery is in the recovery drive. It may be on a spearate partition of your HD.

When you created the system image, you basically created a mirror image of your HDD. When you restored the image, it wiped out what was there and replaced it with your image.

I assume you're talking about Windows System Imaging.
Imaging is a snapshot of the partition(s) - everything except a little "clutter".
Reimaging just replaces the snapshot. Use the October image and it looks just like you turned your PC on back in October.
Many people prefer third party imaging programs over the inbuilt Windows one.

You're singing the praises of images = a must have.

Win7 backup Imaging applies an image of your HD as it existed at the moment you took the image.

Unlike System Restore, it does not save your files added since the image was taken. So keep a separate file backup between images.

However Win7 backup imaging is more reliable than System Restore points, which can strangely disappear sometimes. Check periodically that yours is turned on at Computer>Properties>Advanced System Options>System Protection. While there, Configure SysRestore to save more points for longer by increasing the HD space allotted for it. I use 20%. You can use even more if you have a large HD.
