For BitLocker, if you wanted to use that. From my understanding, only Ultimate makes that partition.

The 100MB system/boot partition will be available for Ultimate, Business and Enterprise editions. Also, in addition to being used for BitLocker encryption, it holds the Recovery environment (WinRE) and boot files.

On a fresh installation of Windows 7, the installer will create the Bitlocker partition. If you do not intend to use Bitlocker, this partition can be subsequently removed.

On machines that have other existing partitions, the Bitlocker partition will not be created.

It is not needed to expand files during installation.

I have win 7 64 bit RTM professional version from msdn. i have the 100mb system reserved partition.

Are you guys saying it's safe to delete? Or is it needed to actually boot windows?

thanks

It can be used to boot Windows in the absence of the install DVD (or other install medium).

It is as safe to delete as you are confident that you do not need it. If you need 100MB badly enough, or need the partition space.

Im gonna delete it, I think it's part of the reason I can't use Windows BAckup to create a system image, since there is only 30mb free of the 100mb. I keep getting a disc space error.

You won't be able to delete it anyways. Nor is it the reason why Windows Backup is not working.

It gives me no option to delete the partition.

Is there a special way to do this?

You can't delete it from within Windows. It is possible to delete it after installing Windows 7, but it might not be something you want to undertake, as the guide I read involves quite a few steps.

Here's the guide I found. If the link doesn't open, do a Google search for "Delete W7's Reserved Partition After Install", and view the cached version.

If you read the guide carefully, the author recommends making a back up, in case things go completely awry. If you don't mind just reinstalling, then it's not that important.

I posted a question in your system back up thread.
