In system protection, the current usage is at 405GB while max usage is defined at 279GB (30%).
1) How this can happen ? ,and
2) How can I set the Max Usage to be kept?

Hi Shawn,
I have been through the tutorial. This is how I tuned the system some months ago. Now, I see what I described in the first post.
Any hint on what is going on?

That may explain what happened then. You must have already been at 405GB when you changed the max to 279GB.

To reduce the "Current usage", you could click on the "Delete" button to delete all restore points and start over with it now not going past 279GB if you do not mind losing the old restore points.

So, the only way to reduce the space is to completely delete all restore points and start from scratch?
I thought that if you reduce the slider, it will eventually come down to it (i.e. at the next restore point capture, deleting the older points that are above the new limit).

For some unknown reason your's didn't. Deleting them is the only way that I know to reset it to have the correct max usage.

Could you run the vssadmin list shadowstorage command from OPTION TWO in the tutorial above, and post back a screenshot showing the full output to see if there may be anything that stands out?

Now I feel embarassed...
The command yields the same as in System Protection window, which now says Current Usage=211.34GB, Max Usage=279.42GB (30%).
I don't know why now is back within limits. As from my original post I touched nothing at System Protection.
Who knows...sorry to bother you.

It no bother at all. That's what I'm here for. :)

It may have just been some glitch that the GUI setting in System Protection wasn't able to shrink the max size while the command prompt option did.
