I've not had any 'auto' restore points in the 3 months I've had PC. Guess I was supposed to configure it at time of setting up machine. Anyway . . .got into it & found what looks like a folder icon:PQSERVICE -- Protection:Off. Am I supposed to turn it on too?

As far as I'm aware the PQService is your computer's hidden recovery partition so my thinking would be that if its off you can't use it to restore to factory settings.

I think you'll get more information via your manufacturer's support site or your computer manual.

I just did a search here at sevenforums & it does look like the PQSERVICE deals with 'restore to factory' so I won't mess with it.

This whole System Restore thing is very confusing, some places I've read that it makes auto points at either a set time or at boot time, other places say only by MS Updates or installs, uninstalls, or manually.

I think you'll find that the PQService relates to your E-machine setup rather than a Windows requirement.

As you rightly say, it should have been setup when you first configured your computer's settings.

Have a look at these FAQs.

System Restore: frequently asked questions

I did do the eMach. Recovery Disks.

My concern was that I've not had any 'automatic' points as it states in your FAQ link. So I went looking for answers & somehow was directed to Task Scheduler where it has options. That was my question I guess, "should I have configured that to get my 'auto points'? And should I have gone into all the other nooks & cranny's of my OS to do 'configurations/settings?
Again, I've made a mess of a thread because I seem to have a hard time wording my questions. :(
