Thanks for all the information about getting rid of that trash. Super Anti Spyware is designed to find and remove cookies that spy on you. It does it's job well. I really don't know why one would keep cookies. Happy computing to all.

There are certain foreign newspaper sites for example that I use every day and when I get too agressive at removing stuff I find that I'm not recognised and have to jump through all kinds of hoops to get into them again.

I remember now, sometimes on a secure site they look for that cookie. I think some banks still do that. Every now and again if you run SAS in safe mode it will pick up a bad one. MAM seams to work better in normal mode.

In your scan results go through the list of cookies removed. There should be an option to restore them and allow for future scans. Normally though a scanner will remove tracking cookies which don't store login or secure info.

You got rid of Babylon easily it seems. I've checked with a security expert and some have had to do it manually through the registry plus all the steps you listed. There have been some people who have got Babylon with a Firefox download too. They seem to be dishonest and sneaky underhanded #$$%&&*%@s.

Yeah, that's roughly what I told them myself. It's not as easy to get rid of as some stuff. Even when I went through all the steps and it appeared to be gone I entered something in the address bar to run a search and the damn thing popped up again. It took a few attempts to finally boot it out. I didn't get into regedit yet to see if any traces are left as it wasn't working and wouldn't even open. Someone suggested going to start and entering regedt32 into the search box and that seems to have got it back. The icon is different but it appears to be the same thing.

In the Start search box type regedit, hit enter.
When regedit opens hold CTRL and press F.

In the search field that opens type Babylon and the Find Next.

It will search the registry for any entry with that string (Name) in it.
If it finds one. it will be lightly highlighted, right click the entry in the right hand panel and Delete.

Press F3 to find the next entry and repeat.

When it has found all entry a window will tell you Finished searching the registry.

It might be a good idea to repeat the steps and search for search.babylon too.

Oh I know how to use it as I got plenty of practice with Windows 95, my problem was it wouldn't open at all. Using regedt32 instead did work though.

Just to bring things up to date System Restore is now working fine. And as suggested the problem was Spybot. As soon as I got rid of that I was able to use System Restore again. Thanks a lot for all the help.

Spybot used to be a very effective, light program back in the XP days but lately it seems to have become a bloated mess.

I installed a beta of one of the newer versions about a year ago and it mucked up my system. Couldn't believe how much it had changed.
