Tabs in Firefox

I set my Firefox preferences to always open new windows in a new tab. But it does not do that. It always opens a new window in the same tab. Are there any other settings I may have missed.

Use an extension called Tab Mix Plus You can find it below. I always use the Dev version as it is better. I have been using TMP for years and can vouch that it is one of the best add-ons out there. It should do what you want. Get it Here:

b) I use Tab Mix Plus as an addon and it phrases its option as "Open links in a new window as 1) new window, 2) new tab 3) current tab. It only affects links that is supposed to open in a new window.

If you go into the TMP properties you will see:

It is not mis- phrased

Thanks guys. I'll see whether I can make that work in my Firefox running in Linux Mint. In Windows I never used FF.

Update: for starters I could not find the TMP properties.

Open a new tab and enter "about:config" in the address bar.

Search for this: "browser.link.open_newwindow" and confirm that the setting is 3. If it's not, make it so.

I use FF as my primary browser in Windows.
It opens new windows in a new tab without any extra addon such as TMP.
You could try creating a new FF profile and see if you have the same issue.
Maybe something is corrupt in your current profile?

Wolfgang, do you have extensions installed? If so, a quick check in safe mode to see if problem persists.
