I wonder, is there a way in Win7 to stop the taskbar being always on top? I remember in all other Win versions, there was an option, but now I cannot find it.

When I fullscreen an ebook for example, unless I have the taskbar on auto-hide, the fullscreen will not actually be fullscreen, it will only fill the screen minus the taskbar, which is still there. Or when I move a window below the taskbar, it is always behind it. I don't like that.

I used to use auto-hide all the time, but I like the Win7 taskbar, finally one I don't mind on all the time, but I certainly don't want it as "always on top", argh.

As far as I know the only option is always on top or auto hide.

Well isn't that just peachy. I would think that as Windows gets better and better with every generation, it would allow more and more customization. Argh.

Always on top of windows

I agree. I wish there were a way to make the task bar auto-hide and NOT be on top of other windows. I keep the task bar hidden on the right and whenever I use the scroll bar, if I go a little to far, the task bar keeps popping up.

I hope there is a fix for this. It is very annoying. I disabled the always on top feature in xp but there's no why to do this in win7. I hate the hide feature because..
1. I can't see it if i don't have a window open. (to see my clock, quick-launch, ect.)
2. I keep my taskbar on top of my screen and it keeps popping up when I close or minimize a window.

I have several ASUS EEE PC and I really need this feature ON, since it allows me to use the netbook screen more efficiently /it has a really small display/. M$ will push be to turn back to WinXP. I wonder if there's a registry record or something else that could enable the program windows to show over the taskbar?

I have searched and seems that no solutions is available till the moment. The old registry settings do not work definitely.

Someone has to contact the MS team directly and let them know to create a fix downloadable via windows update. How hard could it be, even vista had this feature and 7 is pretty much the same. Come on now.

a few features were removed that Microsoft deemed niche, apparently not many people used this feature so it was removed, to me that was a very weak reason. I agree with you guys it should be readded.

Hello there,
I hope you can help me with this.
I actually want the taskbar always on top AND auto-hiding. I'd prefer to use Windows-Explorer and Firefox in the fullscreen mode (F11), but then, I cannot access to the auto-hiding taskbar.
(I wouldn't like to have the taskbar on top of fullscreened Media Center or games, but as I'm not used to use them often, I could live with that.)
Any ideas?
Quebby

Yes, I know. I can equally press the windows button, but I'd like to open the taskbar just with the mouse and without popping up the start menu (cuz I barelly need it).
Thanks
