Solved Taskbar Pinning Issue

Hello-

Today we are having an issue pinning a Shortcut (SpeedTest) we created to the Taskbar. We established

a legitimate icon for the shortcut as well. The trouble is, when we drag the shortcut to the Taskabar we get a

word balloon that reads 'Pin to Opera'. I have searched, read tutorials here, checked 'gpedit.msc' options, etc.

to no avail. Please note attachment. Also, when right clicking the Shortcut, there's no option to 'Pin to

Taskbar'.

I don't recall ever having this issue before. Could someone please help me out here?

This should resolve your issue. Please post your results back.

Thanks, D3LL, but that tutorial refers to the Start Menu. Brink has another tutorial regarding the Taskbar, but that's no help, either.

Thanks, D3LL... I'm not understanding that very well. I managed to create a Start Menu shortcut by adding the internet shortcut (web document url) to- C:\Users\'my user name'\App Data\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs. I can click Start and it's in the list. I'm not sure what the 'change arrow' has to do with it. If there's a way to change that file to a different file type, like application from internet shortcut, it will pin to the taskbar then. Can't figure out how to change the extension from .url to .exe, either... either way would work.
I just can't get my head wrapped around that 'change, remove arrow' thing.

Hmmm, now I'm really confused!... Brink, I only saw TWO options in the link provided, and I'm running Windows 7 Pro SP1 x64, not Windows 10... or did I simply miss something here?...jus' wonderin'

OK, Brink, that works fine for IE.... My default browser is Opera and the same process doesn't work there.

I thought it did at one time. What I did is to create a shortcut, downloaded an image of SpeedTests logo

(.PNG), converted it to .ico and applied it to the shortcut. From there, I simply moved it to-

'C:\Users\'my user name'\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs'

It's not that frequently used, except when my internet acts up. (See attach.)

I'm almost certain I was able to pin to taskbar using Opera as default. I know I could in XP Pro SP3.

If you have any other advice or suggestions, I'm all ears, or eyes in this case.

Yes, Brink, that's exactly what I was going to try- incorporate it right into the 'launcher.exe'...

Double check to see if Opera was installed to the %ProgramFiles(x86)%\Opera folder.

Go ahead and also post a screenshot showing the Shortcut tab in Properties of the shortcut to see if anything may be wrong.

Thanks for that, Brink... Yes, indeed Opera's installed in the correct location (See attchmnt)

Maybe I am not sure of how to integrate 'www.speedtest.net' into there properly

Here's another slick way, that works, with Opera- Create shortcut on desktop, drag to taskbar, and pin to

Opera. Then, right click Opera icon on taskbar and a submenu comes up showing it pinned to Opera- click

that, and BOOM!... SpeedTest!... yeah, that's cool with me.

Brink, for the sake of gaining knowledge, would you please be kind enough to illustrate exactly how,

graphically, you're implementing your method above- with the launcher.exe file?... Thanks!

Off topic, I have another issue that needs some sound advice. I initiated a thread on it a while back, but

got a plethora of answers. I'll PM you with regard to that, if it's OK- Thanks for that.

Hmmm...that's what I attempted, as well- but I get a window that says it doesn't exist, but it certainly does,

as I can open Opera from that 'launcher.exe' location. Here, check this attachment graphic out:

It appears the launcher.exe is not there for you. Post a screenshot of Windows Explorer showing the location that the launcher.exe file is at for you to see where it's at instead.
