Hello everybody,

So there is this black windows that pops up all the time called "taskeng.exe"
I did some research and there is a virus called "taskeng.exe" and the actual thing.
I have the virus because it pops up with a black window.
It pops at random, I'd say every 30 minutes or 1 hour.
I have tried to use Malwarebytes to remove it, it didn't work.
I tried MS Security Essentials, it didn't work.
If anyone knows how to remove this virus and what it does, please help.
Thank you and any help is extremely appreciated.

I did some research and there is a virus called "taskeng.exe" and the actual thing.
It is almost impossible to research stuff like this. Websites get paid when they present adverts to visitors. There are lots of websites that do nothing but claim every exe file is a possible infection just to get you to visit their website. Also, it is possible for every exe to be infected. You just cannot know for sure.

A window with taskeng in its name may popup if a scheduled task was set to not hide its window.

Wait for those that normally answer posts in this sub-forum to walk you thru a series of scans. If nothing is found, you can say that no infections were found. However, experience tells us that there are infections that cannot be detected at this time.

if you get process explorer from MS/sysinternals, you can at least see the process starting (set the fade to full 9 seconds) in a parent/child process relationship, and, see what process spawned it, and, possibly jump right to the registry location spawning it.

The lower pane will give valuable data on the process....

(youtube has a 1 hour and 20+ minute tutorial by Mark Russinovich on process explorer; high advised to watch it)

Let's look at what's running:

Download DDS from one of these links:
DDS.com
DDS.pif
  • Disable any script blocking protection
  • Double click the dds icon to run the tool.
  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
    1. DDS.txt
    2. Attach.txt <--- will be minimized in the task tray
  • Save both reports to your desktop.

Include the contents of both logs in your next post
