I have Disktrix for 29 and I have 2 ssd'd that don't need defragged of course but I can configure it for my mechanical drives and it improves it for them as far as 3 points on the wei scale it depends on how it's configured and what benefits you want. You can't do that with any other defragmenter that I have found. Anyhow I don't write to often to my ssd's but all writing is done to the mechanical drives, just the operating system sets on the ssd..

yes that is one of the best Defrag tools I've seen, but from the posts I've read and the change-log I'm not willing to try that program yet. If I could get some more feedback that would be great as I still want to try it.

I should add that allot of the posts that are negative about this program talk about file system corruption and being unable to boot. None of this would surprise me as I've seen this in the past with DK and PD.

I agree with yowan there! I also use another defragger,"my defrag", Download and install where you can consolidate the free space after the defrag.is over.

Just a piece of "unasked for" advise to those new on the road to computer-savvy town! Kindly use CCleaner before using Defraggler, it optimises things better!

Just asking so don't take this the wrong way. How does CCleaner optimize things better?

i would say it gets rid of the 'crap' before defragging.

if you defrag first, then delete stuff after, you've got holes where further fragmentation will inevitably occur.

That makes sense, but when most programs usually are set to auto-defrag this would be a non issue.

I just ran a quick comparison of Defraggler and Auslogics BoostSpeed. BoostSPeed seemed to do the defragging about 10 times faster than Defraggler. So I'll be sticking with Auslogics.

Perhaps this is due to Auslogics being multi-threaded? My CPU is an i7 with 8 threads, so that's the only thing I can guess at for the improved speed.

There is one nice feature Defraggler has though and that is the ability to pick which specific files you want to defrag if there is a situation where you don't want to defrag everything.

If Auslogics is that much faster, it must be due to a different (probably simpler) algorithm. For the record, Defraggler is lightning-fast with doing "quick defrags" too, but not nearly as thorough.

Of course, now that I'm running off a brandnew SSD I'm having to teach myself to lose the habit of defragging at all. Not easy. :)

I ran Windows 7's built-in defragger today with no problems. No noticeable improvement, but no problems. Years ago, on another OS, I used a free defragger and had to reformat as a result. I have used the built-in defragger from Windows 95 up and have never had a problem.

I'm glad that it is working for you, but what does it do that Windows' built-in defragger doesn't do?

Well, with Piriform Defraggler you can defragment your individual files and folders and it can show you all of the list of all of your fragmented files which you can selectively choose to defragment not like in the built in Windows defragger. It is also fast compared to Windows defragger which takes sometime to complete, IMO..

Defraggler from Piriform. Also where you find CCleaner. I let my HDD get to 45GB of fragmented data once. Haha... Yea I started running much faster after defragging. Anyways, defraggler is completely free (:

I agree with this.

Though SSD users have this in mind, dont ever defrag your ssd.

Defragmentation kills SSD.

Wow as if this thread is still alive,

I will stand by what i said on page 2(I think?)

Defraggler is a good program and very neat to use, but at the end of the day it is your personal choice over what programmes you install and use on your machine.
