The leaked Windows 7 build 7025

There has been little talk of Windows 7 builds after the leak and public release of the first beta build (7000) earlier this month, but Microsoft has definitely been busy. What many seem to overlook is that build 7000 was compiled on December 12, 2008, at 2:00PM. Since then, there have been many other builds compiled, including 7003, 7004, 7012, 7015, 7016, and 7025. The last one, which leaked over the weekend (though it is much harder to find than 7000), has the following build string number: "7025.0.x86fre.winmain.090120-1850," meaning it was compiled on January 20, 2009, at 6:50PM. That makes it only a week old, which means it is quite new, though of course it is not the newest.

Build 7025 incorporates quite a few bug fixes, as well as a few minor visual changes to built-in programs like Paint and Windows Media Player. It also comes with an updated build of Internet Explorer 8, as you can see in the screenshot above. If you're scratching your head about the apparent return of the Quick Launch toolbar, don't. You can enable the Quick Launch toolbar in Windows 7 with a registry tweak, so in all likelihood, the user who took this screenshot (more at PCBETA) made the appropriate change in the registry beforehand. It's unlikely that Microsoft plans to include the Quick Launch toolbar on by default in Windows 7.

With new builds do you have to reinstall the entire OS, or can you get "updates" to your current build?

Really I want to see how IE8 RC1 is, but it is not available for Win7.

You have to reinstall the whole OS, and even if you didn't have to, I would recommend that you do (none of that upgrade nonsense, especially with betas).

I dunno, I would recommend checking out the upgrade feature with 7 atleast once, it's totally different from the others. It will actually reinstall your apps unlike before when it just replaced the files. It's a beta, get the whole feel for it!

From Vista to 7, not from a 7 beta build to another 7 beta build.

People have been upgrading from Vista x64 to 6801 x64 to 6936 x64 to 7000 x64 so i expect you will be able to do it with the next build as well.

Yes I am afraid so, but hopefully the next builds will keep using the same Beta keys.

When they launched the IE8 RC1 update yesterday there was a hint in their blog that IE8 in Windows 7 will get updated at the next update of the OS. So looks like there will be a further beta.

7025 is fake, the setup and version info is 7000 as is a lot of files. I have it on good authority that the version your seeing is faked. There is a build 7025, but it does have subtle differences then what your seeing on the screenshots.

lets take this from a logical point of view...

we know Microsoft is still updating their software. IE - new constant rebuilds of the OS. its a fact. They haven't stopped, and won't stop until the product is...RTM i believe the term is. That being said, there is a possibility that "maybe" the photos released are fake. Entirely possible, but to think that Microsoft is not on 7025 by now..doesn't make sense. If they released 6801 in October...and 2 months later are on 7000, then by schedule 7025 is actually a little behind in the rate they have been going at.

Right then
There is a build 7025 in existance. However the screen shots are faked. There is obviously somebody who has seen this build in order to know compile dates etc... I have been told that there has not been any leak of 7025. And believe me my mate knows. As of yesterday MS were compiling build 7028, which i am told may be RC1 if it remains good. All the core elements are in place, obviously now they are just fixing bugs etc....
Now this is not to say that 7015 WONT be leaked. All i know is that it has not been leaked as far as he can tell. the changes over 7000 to 7025 are minimum, nothing really noticble in the eye candy so to speak.
However if it leaks then at least it can be added to the collection lol
