The Navigation Pane on the left side of Windows Explorer

My problem is how the left window reacts when I select a folder.

If I have a long list of folders in the left window and I click on the small arrow to the left of a folder, it is supposed to show the list of sub-folders that are in the selected folder.

It does but here is my problem. Lets say the folder that I select is in the middle of the left window. When I click on the small arrow, Windows Explorer shifts the folder list down so that the selected folder is near the bottom of the window. Generally I can only see one of the sub-folders. And then I have to use the slider to move the selected folder up so I can see more than one sub-folder.

I wish it would leave the folder where it was and show as many sub-folders as possible underneath the selected folder. I hope this explanation makes sense.

I tried it on my Computer and the on clicking the arrow it moves up as it should instead of going down. Please try out the following steps to correct the problem.

1. Restore the folder to default as follows and check if that helped:

a. Open windows explorer
b. Click on Organize
c. Select folder and search option from the list
d. Select General tab, and select “Restore Default”

2. Run an online scanner to check any malware or virus activity. The link that will help you to run a free scan on the computer is Windows Live OneCare

3. If the above steps do not help then run the SFC (System File Checker) scan on the computer to fix the system file errors on the computer. To run SFC scan, follow the steps below:

a. Click Start ,
b. Click All Programs ,
c. Click Accessories , right-click Command Prompt ,
d. And then click Run as administrator.
e. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow or Continue.
f. At the prompt, type sfc /scannow and hit enter. Once the scan is complete, restart the computer for the changes to take effect.

My reply is very late and maybe obsolete, but I started only 2 months ago with Win7
I noticed the same as alsimon96 describes and I think it is one of the many annoying "improvements" of this Windows version.
Fortunately, I'm using for a very long time 'xplorer2' (Pro version) and that works the way you want and expect and it is a great replacement for Windows Explorer. If you don't know this program, try it and I'm sure that you will love it. I never used Windows Explorer anymore for years, unless it is started by the system or by some software.
