My computer stopped yesterday and it was almost 7 years old, so I decided to buy a new one. I did it
and I got KOMPAQ presario PC CQ5521f AMD, with win 7 home premium 64 bit, and 640 Gb hard drive and 3 GB of memory. Everything works great except some programs will not work in the windows 7, but they work well on XP. Now, I made one partition of 82 GB on C drive and I transferred the image of XP, which I had on an external hard drive and it was an excellent working XP.
Now, I would like to have dual booting. I like to boot or XP or win 7. It does boot just win 7 and does not see added partition. What can I do to have dual booting?

There's no need to dual boot OR to reinstall XP. Just use the compatibility settings on the program. In most cases this will allow older programs to run.

If after trying to install programs in Compatibility Mode you still decide you want to try to dual boot XP from your backup image, reimage it to partition on its own HD if possible. Then run a Repair Install to start XP on new hardware: Repair Windows XP - How to Perform a Repair Installation of Windows XP - Part 1 of 2.url

If you have separate HD's run the Repair install with Win7 unplugged, then when you plug it back in after XP starts up, boot Win7 instead via the Escape key which opens the BIOS Boot menu. Booting via BIOS keeps the HD's independent to come and go as you please.

If you are using the same HD for both OS's then if XP starts up, install EasyBCD 2.0 after first installing Net Framework 2.0 which is required to run Easy in XP. Then Add Win7, save and restart.
