Cause of the problem

The problem is that Windows 7 uses different context menus for 32-bit and 64-bit applications.

I followed your steps but did them twice because the first time forgot to download the 64 bit version..sigh...But All good now...

I know this is an old thread, but I just wanted to post that it has solved my issue completely.

I uninstalled the 32x version and installed the 64x and it worked perfectly, with the context menus all present and correct.

I ran halfway across the Internet and back looking for a solution to this. I never had the problem during the beta period or for the first 18 months under the release version. I built a new system a few weeks back and this has had me pulling my hair out.

The only solution for me was to install both the 32-bit and the 64-bit versions. I can't help but suspect that when I run it I am actually using the 32-bit version, though.

I ran into this problem on a friends computer and i went and looked at installed programs and it showed a beta version of 7zip being installed i unintstalled it and the context menu appeared immediately

The solution is the the same for many permision issues in Windows 7.

right click on the shortcut to 7zip > Select Run As Administrator.

Now when you change the settings under Tools > Options, they will take effect.

I had a similar problem. It turns out, mine was caused by installing the 32bit version on windows 7 64 bit. I know that that shouldn't be a problem, but it was. I uninstalled the 32bit version and installed the 64 bit. Problem was fixed, I had the 7zip options in the context menu again. Here is the link for the latest versions of 7zip from sourceforge

I had the same problem. In my case I had installed the 32bit version of 7-zip on a 64 bit version of windows 7 (RC1). It ran fine but no context menus.

I installed the 64bit version of 7-zip and the context menus worked!

This also fixed it for me - uninstalled the x86 (32bit) version, downloaded and installed the x64 version and it now works

I have this problem – I wanted 7zip to be in my right hand button click menu when using Windows Explorer.

My System
Windows 7; 64 bit running on non-Intel (AMD) processor with two cores.

My Solution
I did what was suggested by "problem212", above(actually back on page 3), and this solved THAT problem. However, it seems dumb that when you are viewing a subdirectory within the 7 zip file window, can't navigate into it by double-clicking or anything else. TELL ME I'M WRONG.

At least now I can invoke the application from anywhere I might explore with Windows Explorer.
