The settings on this computer do not match the requirements...

We recently hired a new ISP for our office. The first days, the connection was fine. But couple days later, my connection icon on the taskbar turned into "X" sign but the connection were still going on. Moments after, the connection went off and I saw this warning "The settings on this computer do not match the requirements of the network". My friend's laptop showed the X sign as well but his internet connection keeps going on.

I looked for solutions as follows.
1. Remove the network from wireless networks, try to connect again. Done. Problems not solved.
2. Update the network adapter, restart, connect again. Done. Problems not solved.
3. Configure network security to "no authentication". Done. Problems not solved.
4. Change IP addresses. Done. Problem not solved.

My phone was connected to the WIFI just fine. I tethered it to my laptop by USB and the internet is back on. This is the way I get connected each day since then. Is there anything I missed with the settings that might cause this problem?

Thank you very much.

Can you connect using a wired connection to your router?

You can try factory resetting your router and re-setting up the wireless on it.

Hi, GokAy!

I haven't tried that way. This morning I opened the network properties and configured the internet protocol version 4 and now the internet works!
I set it to this as follows:
> Use the following IP address:
IP Address: I connected my phone to WIFI, and used the IP shown on it.
Subnet mask: It's automatically set to 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: I set this to the one shown on my friend's laptop settings. Network status> Details> IPv4 Default geteway

> Use the following DNS:
Primer: 8.8.8.8
Alternative: 8.8.4.4

Now even though it is connected, the network icon on taskbar is still showing a caution mark. I dunno how to get rid of it but that doesn't really matter.

Anyway, thank you for your reply!!

What IP did you set and what is the default gateway? The DNS addresses are for Google DNS servers.

Open a command prompt (Win+R then cmd):
Code:
ipconfig -all |clip
It won't output anything but will copy the results to the clipboard, CTRL+V here.

It only worked for half an hour!!!
Now it's back to the X sign. It is really annoying. I went back to the previous way, which by tethering my phone to the laptop.

Anyway, here is the result by command prompt.

Change wireless back to automatic and factory restore/reset the modem/router (do you have 1 device or 2) since you have changed ISPs some setting may be incompatible.

I think I cannot just factory-reset the router cuz I don't have the privilege to do so. I am trying to solve this problem on my own cuz our tech guy seems not reliable on this one.
Anyway, I have changed the wireless back to automatic but still.

I was thinking that you are in charge. You can only do so much without proper authority.

Do you have an IT person WHO can look into this?

Well, the other laptops are connecting just fine, but I don't understand why only mine isn't. I wonder if the problem really is the router device or my laptop.
I'll try to talk with the IT guy and see if he can let me reset the router. Thank you for your assistance and I will get back with any update.

He should be doing what has to be done but work with us doing so.

Well, you said your friend's laptop showed the same X. So it is most likely a configuration issue, either on those 2 laptops or something on the router.

Did you try in Safe Mode with Networking? Also you can try with a Linux Mint MATE DVD/USB (just boot with it, no need to install) and see if connection is alright or not.

I haven't tried with Safe Mode.

I rebooted the router and now the internet works. This once happened before but still turns back to the X sign after a while. I hope this time it doesn't.

Ohh, the X sign just showed up again. -___-
Added a new device while switching ISP? I don't have any idea.

Well, could you please explain to me why it takes time before the X sign shows up and connection goes off?
I just wonder that, if the settings either on the router or laptop are not correct, I wouldn't have been able to connect in the first try. But in fact, I was able for a moment before connection goes off. Moreover, I am still able to get online even if the X sign is showing (like this moment). Though it will surely go offline later.

If this was only one PC we could try some PC specific networking fixes but I feel it is useless at the moment. Please try with Linux Mint MATE: download and burn the ISO to a USB flash drive with Rufus or to a DVD. Boot with the USB/DVD and see if network connection will be stable.
