I got my the witcher 2 today, now to start playing....oh and if it wasn't for the cool artist book (I like to draw so it's kinda a big thing for me) then the collecters edition is crap...tho the dice are kinda cool and we can use them and the cards for drinking games

The whole package is incredibly content-rich, and I can understand you not really wanting much of it. But there are, in fact, others who totally flipped about it

Just a small hint for those hunting for the epic armor: When confronted with two particular paths, don't take the one you're supposed to, take the opposite one. That is all xD

Hehehe, yeah I know, should have added "imho" but I think you might agree that the stickers are kinda a cheap extra if you consider what they give you? IMHO haha

I love the dice and the cards; the coins look amazing, too!

As for the soundtrack, I just can't stop listening to it. I usually have a tendency to devour newly released good soundtracks until they become kinda "stale", then I just pick my favorites and throw them into a playlist to listen while I'm sleeping lol. Needless to say that there's a lot in the TW2 OST that is worth listening to. A LOT!

Yeah but the soundtrack and a coin you get with the normal enhanced edition,so basically all you get extra with the collectors edition is a map,stupid paper building monster stuff,cool dice(and pouch) nice cards and a weird face bust thing oh and stickers. So all and all not cool. Except for the awesome book. That justifies my purchase.

when I try to reassign the W and S keys to the up and down arrows
on my keyboard, I get this error message - the left and right arrows are OK,
they can be re-assigned - so why not the up and down arrows..??

I hate the WASD config..

Update on the build I have now. Which is working GREAT with The Witcher 2.
I can play on Ultra with Uber but disabled SSAO, Motion Blur, Blur Effects and Vsynch in Windowed Mode (ie: Full Screen Disabled). The windowed mode is unfortunately not completely a result of my specs, there are issues with the game and that is one of the solutions.

It plays super sweet now and still looks amazing.

So, Again, I have proven that it is more about the video card than the whole of the system, or more importantly amount of RAM. In other words you do not need 8G of ram in a gaming only system, 4G in any Gaming only system is plenty. So, if you are spending money on 8 or 16G of ram in a gaming system and chincing on the Video card, you are short changing yourself.

Anyway......


Bug, did you get the game from GOG.com?

I am not sure about the Steam version or Retail, but, you can start the luancher, go to Downloadable Stuff and all of that is there is free,, no code needed.

Also, it would seem that you are running with UAC enabled, which means that you would need to run everything as admin. Have you tried that?

If STEAM, it will will patch its self, DLC included.

For the rest, I think you need to download and patch the game.
And Yes, You need to register.
You may need to run the launcher as admin as well. I remember that being a fix for some, Pre-Patch.

oh yes, it's the Premium Edition - bought over the counter at Games shop in town..
black box containing coupla DVD's, maps, coin, paper models - all that stuff..

- I've just uninstalled it all - gonna try again from scratch..

so, I guess it's
- install it
- register it,
- patch it (BTW:- which one is the UK version of the patch..??)

- then figure out how to change keys and get DLC..

Check out the official site. Im honestly not sure about the retail, as I have the STEAM version.

The patch was supposed to give up to 30% gains in performance though for Retail editions.
Im unsure if the patch contains the DLC for you as well, or a fix for the launcher to download it.

I've installed all the DLC I wanted. They are freely downloadable online, you need Patch 1.1 and then right click on the .exe and select Run As Administrator.

during the prologue "The King's Will - Part 1", you are asked to assist the King
with firing his prize trebuchet at the enemy - after handing you his spyglass,
the King requests that you aim it for him and a grid appears in the scope, which floats
about in front of this geezer standing on the battlements, in the distance..

there must be a way to get a direct hit, else why the grid, etc..
- so, how do you work the dratted thing?

- doesn't matter where I aim the trebuchet - left, right, up or down of the target
- every time I hit enter, Geralt says "Three Degrees" and the King fires,
- then the bolt misses the enemy dude by a country mile..
- straight over his head.. woosh!!

- is this another RTFM-type thing, or what..?

BTW: the interface is a bit clunky, compared the the original Witcher

Im not sure, and I couldn't hit him either. I thought thats just the way it would always play out, being impossible to actually hit him but ...


Is that not an achievement for scoring a direct hit?

I doubt you can hit him. I aimed for his chest and the volt sailed over him. You could try to aim for the wall, but this is the type of game where you continue even if you fail a mission. I don't think you can reload your saves for most of the autosave's anyway.
