Since I have owned this laptop, I have never been able to use the backup and restore option. Now I notice the option is completely gone. Is there any way I can get this option and make it work?

Go to Start Orb and type in backup. Do you see Backup and Restore?

Hello Skye,

For now, you could use the "Backup and Restore" shortcut below until we get this sorted for you. Does this open it for you?
When you open the Control Panel, do you have it in an "icons view", and is there still not a "Backup and Restore" icon?
Hope this helps for now, :)
Shawn

I have found the option but when i click on create, it starts - like it's going to do a backup, but then I get an error message that says "the specified object was not found (0.80042308).

I have not tried to download the zip file yet. I will try that now and see if it helps.

Yes, i do have the backup/restore icon on control panel - i guess i just missed it the first time - sorry. It still doesn't create a restore point though.

Ok - i downloaded the zip file and it gave me the option of creating a system image or repair disc. I tried to do a system image on my external hard drive but got same error message.

You might also run a sfc /scannow command to see if it may help if you have any missing or corrupted system files.

A restore point is not the same as a Windows Backup. Please clarify what you are wanting. :)

Yes, i know there is a difference. I want to create a restore point but have been unsuccessful at this, despite numerous attempts, for the past 3 years!

Ok. We just needed to make sure we are helping with the correct item since one wouldn't help with the other.

For now, double check these items:
  • Volume Shadow Copy service is enabled and set to manual or automatic.
  • Run a sfc /scannow command
If those do not help, then you might consider doing a repair install since you had this issue for 3 years.
