"This Copy of Windows is not Genuine" BUT IT IS

So I look down in the corner of my screen today and see:

Windows 7
Build 7600
This copy of Windows is not genuine

Funny story, I BOUGHT THIS COPY OF WINDOWS DIRECTLY FROM MICROSOFT. I got it off that promotional deal where students could get a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium or Business for $30. That promotional deal run directly by Microsoft.

Not only that, but I had my updates configured to ONLY allow for critical updates. Windows Genuine Assurance (or whatever they're calling it this time around) is NOT a critical update.

No dice. The online validation is also saying that my copy isn't legit. Well, that it "may not" be legitimate, but the whole site's kind of got this passive-aggressive piracy accusation thing going on.

When did you install Windows 7?

Was this an upgrade version, or a Full Version of Windows 7?

Did you do a clean install, or upgrade?

Installed a few days after launch.

Full Version

Clean Install (on a previously unused fresh out of the box Hard Drive, no less)

Since you said that it was installed around launch date, (I am assuming that it was working and was activated before) and you did a fresh clean install with a Full version of Windows 7

My guess is that Microsoft blocked the key as it was being resold, and was being activated on other machines.

What version of Windows 7 is it, (example OEM, or retail version, MSDN subscription)

To contact Microsoft (I would call them)
Click start and type, slui to try to active again, if that fails type slui 4 Then follow the on screen instructions to contact Microsoft.

Have you tried activating with the phone. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/18715-activate-windows-7-phone.html I had to do a fresh install of a student upgrade just a couple of weeks ago and this worked, when the regular on-line activation said the key was not usable.

Finally got them to activate it over the phone. The robot failed but I actually got to talk to a real live person after a bit (how many people can clam that, huh?) and to think if I had actually stolen it, it probably would have come with a crack to bypass WGA entirely. I really wish developers would realize that this kind of crap only punishes their legitimate users.

Kalos, I am glad you got your problem solved. If it is any consolation, I had to jump through the same hoops with a legitimate retail version and first time install. You are not alone.

Don't call them or give them your key because than they block it. Mine's a real version too, everything worked fine until today. Paid for it unseal and unbroken so I can't see how they insist it's pirated. I think it has something to do on their end.

Too late, I had to contact paypal and make a dispute and they blocked my Gen. Key. It worked fine and validated before, so I don't don't why all of sudden it's is a problem now. $164 bucks that I hope I can back. GRR. I don't see why they can't issue me another key.

I bought it on ebay and than after I got it, a month later the seller said someone hacked their account but the seller sent me the product sealed air tight, But now they are not member of ebay anymore. It's a version of Microsoft. Tight plastic seal [like in the stores] Had the uspn number of Microsoft that sealed the box, I'm the only one who opened it and the Genuine Key was on the back of book like usual after you open it and see the manual. So, I can't see how it's supposedly a downloaded genuine key when I'm the only that opened it. The CD says Microsoft Genuine in the holographic way.

CD's match the Booklet and box numbers. Can't see how that's pirated. I didn't download it off some warez site. Like Microsoft says. I have the black box came in, the holographic CDs, the yellow Genuine key. and the clear casing that holds the CDs' Doesn't make sense.

I called Microsoft about the problem, guy asked me for Genuine Key, I gave it to him and the next thing I know when I go to website to trouble shoot. Comes up as blocked, and the guy on the phone kept insisting that I download the software and that the genuine key was pirated. I'll call again tomorrow and try to talk to Bill Gates.

** okay it said the hologram is not suppose to be sticker and I just tried it and sure it enough it peeled off, hmm; Now I'm curious, how that could be faked when it was sealed so airtight and packaged like Microsoft. That is so weird. grr. Hope, I get my money back $164, that's a lot to lose and looks so like Microsoft.
