Time for a bigger ssd.

Well, it`s just about time for a bigger ssd, I`ve seen quite a few members mentioning Samsungs, so could I get a few opinions on this model ? Is the price ok ? Tiger seems to be high anymore. And are there newer models out ? Thanks everyone

Hi Brian
I have a 180GB INTEL SSDSC2CT180A3 ATA Device. I have found it fast (too fast for my poor old brain sometimes) and very reliable. No probs at all. Intel doesn't have such a good write up as others but I think that is some people knock Intel because they are so big. It's a bit like knocking MS but we still keep using it!

I had two Intel 520 series SSD's go bad within 24 hours of loading the OS. First one started flipping out, several hundred blue screens later I RMA'd it. Next one came in and did the exact same thing. Both on different motherboards. That's why I don't recommend Intel drives anymore. Samsung just about has the market cornered for SSD's. Look at Newegg or Amazon Brian, they will probably be cheaper than TD. Just curious, what have you got on your SSD taking up all your space?

Both use TLC NAND (3-bit per cell) and carry a 3 year warranty be cause of that and are cheaper to produce. The EVO is an updated model of the 840 with a new controller and uses a small portion of the NAND as SLC cache for buffered writes. The software also has a Rapid Mode option which uses the system DRAM to cache read and writes which greatly improves performance. Check online for some reviews. MaximumPC had a review in their latest issue but its not online yet.

Definitely consider the Samsung EVO. Great price, great performance and great software. From 120 GB all the way to 1 TB.

There are quite a few things that can eat up several GB of space. Hibernation, Page File, System Restore, etc. Making sure you are saving documents, pics, music, videos, etc to the hard drive is the most important step in keeping the fat trimmed off your SSD.
