Tips to wiping an HDD

I've decided that I'm going to wipe my Hard drive clean. I've got barely any space and no money for a new hard drive. Before I do this does anyone have any advice. I'd like to do it with no worries.

Go to "My Computer" right click on the drive and left click on Format.
This is not a secure erasure of Data but it clears the drive so as you can use it again.
EDIT; i will have to type a bit faster to beat some of you speed typists.
