There is a big difference in the way they are used Mike. Tablets are usually operated flat on the lap or other surface so that is a natural position for the hands and arms which are supported by the surface. Laptops screens are generally used in a more vertical position and to touch the screen you have to reach forwards with your arms unsupported, a recipe for muscular troubles.

As far as distance is I don't see any difference in that respect the F keys are as close to the screen as anything and touching the screen wouldn't be much farther but yes a little bit
But yes also without a kickstand for the tablet that is a unnatural position that a laptop is better at being in and I believe most stable stance as well = wind....

I still to this day can not get used to my laptops different position to type on,
I much prefer a separate keyboard and mouse because I really can't stand to be that close to even it's screen for very long.

Kari, well first off you can from now on keep to this language, I am part of the swedish speaking community in Finland hence why my Finnish ain't that good. Oh my the Germans do sound weird, I mean for me the sauna exactly like you said is a place where you relax in this like freakishly hot environment, and yeah normally you would also drink Karhu or Lapin Kulta but since I have school tomorrow I wouldn't want to end up a little drunkish there..

Living my ex-pat life I enjoy the opportunity to use both of my mother tongues Finnish and Swedish whenever possible in my first reply to a fellow Finn, or a Swede. I miss Finland and both languages and have usually no possibilities to use any of them in my daily life.

I am fully bilingual, officially also Swedish speaking like you as per information at National Population Registration Centre of Finland (Befolkningsregistercentralen) will tell. Why I posted something in Finnish instead of Swedish is that as you know, the majority of our bilingual country are Finnish speakers so it's usually a safe bet .

I don't like Lapin Kulta. For me, the lager must be Koff or Karhu.

Yeah I can understand it must be a real challenge to live in a country where you cannot use the language you were born with. And I've been in Germany a few times and I got so confused when I was in a shop and the guy said "kyss" or however it is spelled in German but for someone who speaks Swedish it was just so odd and unexpected..

Yeah and the chances of me being a Swedish speaking Finn would also be quite slim.

Hmm. I find the position of the keyboard about right, perhaps a little bit too close to the screen. I use a cooling stand which gives a good position on a table. I've never really got used to the trackpad and have always when possible used an external mouse. The point I was trying to make, perhaps unsuccessfully, was that to touch the screen the arm is in an unsupported position whereas to use the keyboard the heels of the hands are always supported by the palm rest and using the mouse by the table.

Touch screens are like poking at everything which is allot of elbow movement,
At least cell phones the thumbs get the most workout

If you watched the new win-10 build presentation and the hololens part it was actually pretty funny with the finger gestures to select things

I'm like you Keith and never really got used to the touchpad on my Asus. I have a Microsoft Optical Wheel mouse attached to mine which is at the side of me on the couch, I use my Notebook on my knee. At least my wrists rest on the front while typing and the rest of my arms are supported by my legs.

At least it means the screen isn't too far away so it's easy to see in my normal glasses, I have to change glasses when I'm on my desktop computer even though that is a 22" monitor but it's a bit further away on the desk.

I used a Microsoft bluetooth mouse for three years until the scroll wheel packed up. Now I use a Logitech Anywhere MX wireless mouse and I am very happy with it. I use varifocals so I don't need to change glasses although they are not much use today. I had retinal screening this AM and the eye drops make your vision blurry for 4 to 5 hours.

One "great thing" about Microsoft optical mice is Microsoft mouse and keyboard center (this is sarcasm)
It totally wipes out touch pad settings and the entire touchpad section of the mouse properties :shock:
It has irritated me on several occasions attempting to download and install it's dumbed down interface with No touch pad options

I need a new mouse

On mine you have to select the device (touchpad is not the default) to get to its settings.

My hubby has to have that every year so I know the problem you're having.

I wear bifocals so the problem using the desktop machine and the big monitor is the position of it on the desk makes it awkward to see properly, in fact I can quite often see better not wearing my glasses at all.

The optician did me a pair of single vision for the distance from my seat to the monitor, they work really well. My normal ones are OK for the laptop on my knee, although I can go around without them and still see.

Well today I get to take my first real tour of Linux to see if it can salvage a hdd win-10 build 9926 update killed/ locked or whet ever it did to it never booted again after shut down after the build update
Probably mint mate but my nephew uses another version so I'll see it later

I'll just add I do not like where 10 is or is going,
It has way to many internet hungry requirements for search defaults that so far can not be changed leading to a very slow startup and bandwidth hogging.

No don't, well not on this Asus 8.1 I don't. I just plugged this one in and it worked. In the program list it's showing but clicking on it and it tries to find it but then tells me it's not installed.

As long as the mouse works I've no need to install anything else. I have the machine set so that when the mouse is plugged in the touchpad doesn't work, just unplug the mouse and the touchpad is in action again.
