The talk of OSx86 has been sanctioned everywhere just about. All it does it break the EULA, how the person installing it obtains his/her copy of OS X to put it on a PC is up to the person. If I went to buy a copy from an Apple Store, I could easily install it on my AMD desktop with a few tweaks.

I do not believe it is "illegal", just frowned upon. I've never personally heard anyone being sued over installing it on their personal computer. I have heard of companies selling computers with OS X installed (Hackintosh's) being sued, but thats a completely different story.

I have read the Apple EULA and the way it is phrased clearly states that you do not OWN the software you are merely LICENCED to use it on authorised Apple Machines.
This means you are breaking the Apple licence agreement as to how the software may be used which voids your licence, once your licence is void you are stealing. Last time I checked stealing was illegal.

Apple don't sue people who use they're products illegaly any more because it's not good for their image and have moved the enforcement onto people like me.

Since I joined this forum I have forced at least 3 people to remove Mac OS X from their illegal setups and all have complied or if not been banned.

Please read section 1 and 2a of http://images.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/macosx106.pdf to completely understand why it is illegal to install on non Apple Hardware taking into mind that a void licence still being used IS stealing.

Woah now. I wasn't commenting from a legal stance there. If anything illegal is going on its Apple disallowing the use of their Operating System on all computers rather then their own hardware as I believe that has a monopoly effect or something rather.

I doubt anyone would remove OS X just because someone asked. I have it installed on my desktop currently, aside from the lack of QE/CI (3d/2d acceleration) on the onboard graphics; it works great.

Not trying to start any fights here, but if someone comes asking for help.. I tend to help rather then shun away.

Apple's business model is based on different ideals to Microsofts.

It is that we will make our OS work really well with limited hardware we choose to support.

Microsoft's model allows for much more user customisation but far more hardware compatability issues (I defend this by asking when was the last time you heard a Mac User complain about a BSoD).

These two different business models are both totally legal (as supported by the US Federal Trade Commission, who's opinion counts, not yours, in deciding whether it is legal or not).

There's no getting around the fact that Apple's terms and conditions clearly state that using Mac OS X on non Apple hardware voids your licence and is stealing if you continue to use it.

The fact that it is illegal makes it applicable to the forum rule disalowing any illegal activity, or the support of said illegal activity, which in most cases if violated should end with an immediate ban.

There is no room for debate here, it has been clearly layed out to you.

Oh and the people I 'asked' I sent fairly reprimanding PMs outlining the possible consiquences on having an illegal copy of Mac OS X on your Computer could be (prosecution etc.).

If you were to break your phone contracts terms and conditions you would expect a warning to stop doing whatever you are violating or in some cases have your service cut off and a fine imposed, possibley to even be taken to court if you broke them extremely badly repeatedly.

I hope this makes my views, the forums views and the laws views on so called 'hackintoshes' clear.

Each OS has their issues, this topic is not about that. This topic is about how Apple is limiting the use of their Operating System to THEIR hardware thus creating a monopoly of sorts. Why the EU isn't on them over it my guess is because they are not the leading company compared to Microsoft (in terms of operating systems).

We could sit here and fight all day but in the end I don't think our views will change. Your view is that you believe Hackintoshes are illegal, unwelcome and just plain wrong. My view is that I believe Hackintoshes allow users without the money for a Mac to use the OS without having to dish out the cash for their outrageous price tag. I consider it welcome, if the user gets his/her copy via a torrent. So be it, thats his/her problem.

Not to be rude but the fundamental point of OS X is to not have compatability/driver issues and this is achieved by limitted hardware, as I say 2 different business models.

As for the thing about Apple price tags, you live in a capitalist economy there is inequality whether you like it or not, OS X isn't neccesairily aimed at every single person it's just aimed at select markets.

Windows is aimed at every Market.

I would go onto how in an extremely socialist sosciety I would totally agree with you but we don't and we're not aloud to discuss politics so end of that.

Arguing and defending your personal belief is something that I find fun. Reporting me likely wouldn't have much impact anyways. Sure you may put me in jail (very unlikely, everyone here knows by now I use OS X on my PC) but in the end. There will always be OSx86 users.
