No it will not.
But it my get you in trouble with your isp, because torrents running will show a steady bandwidth usage which is often related to piracy and torrents.

No, but torrenting can create 2 kinds of problems for you.

1) Many torrents and the files downloaded through them contain malware which may infect your system and do all kinds of damage. They may make the system unusable, steal critical and financial information stored on your computer or accessed by your computer or even turn your computer into a zombie.

2) A lot of content (NOT ALL though) downloaded via torrents is illegal and infringes copyright. If you download such stuff, knowingly or unknowingly, you can get into trouble with law enforcement authorities.

As long as you use torrents to download freeware or as a distribution channel for stuff that you own the copyright for, you should be fine.

There is nothing illegal or wrong with using torrent clients, so long as you're not downloading or "sharing" copyrighted material. I use utorrent 24/7 to seed linux distros and other free and open source software, as it's a good alternative to direct downloads for people who have limited internet speed or want to download large files. If you're paying for a certain bandwidth, you have the right to use as much of it as you want. I would recommend saving and seeding torrents on a separate HDD from your OS, or at the very least, on a separate partition. And to answer your question constant use of utorrent or whatever other torrent client you use will shorten the life of your HDD significantly, in proportion to you internet connection speed

WHY?

I don't use torrent stuff anymore. I think Skunkmash gave me a bunch of sites that have all the software updates I need. ( ccleaner, realtek, file hippo, etc )

some of the better clients use 'intelligent' disk caching, so read/writes aren't quite so frequent.

it's probably no worse than average browsing, but inevitably, running any machine 24/7 will shorten its lifespan, unless it was designed for it in the first place.
