DVD does not see media. Wrong sub-forum?

Hello everyone.
My optical drive will not read or recognize DVD disc. It will read and play a CD containing music or PDF files. I have ran the Microsoft fix but it only says no media loaded. The problem disc contains photos, I assume in JPEG format from a digital camera. The disc plays fine on other PC's.
I have uninstalled both the Toshiba and my CD drive and rebooted. No flags showing in device manager.
Will try to attach my PC specs.
Ideas? Thanks.

Install the Nero Infotool to determine what what read/write features and DVD formats the drive supports. Is the DVD disc in question supported?

(If not sure about DVD format, you can also install the tool on computers where the disc works. Insert disc and click the Disc tab to see what format it is)

I tried to install the Nero Infotool but wouldn't let me open it even though I am the administrator. After install in my start menu it listed Nero as empty.

OK got the Nero tool to work. When I click on disc it also says no disc inserted.

The nero infotool retrieves the drive firmware info, it's not a diagnostic tool. When a drive fails to read the inserted disc odds are the laser was failed. I would just replace it, quality dvd burners are $20 and blu-rey are under $50.

When you do get a new drive, or even now, install VSO Inspector.

VSO-Inspector is a free tool that reports various information about your hardware configuration. Using this freeware, you can check the listed CD, DVD and Blu-ray readers and writers connected to your computer, check the firmware used. The details about the media used and the speed supported by a given writer with this media. Also you can scan a burnt media for read errors and be confident about the readibility of your fresh backup.

VSO Inspector: free CD, DVD and Blu-ray scanning reporting tool for testing your medias and burners

I would double check what type of DVD disc you have before you decide whether or not you want to order that new drive.

Your Nero Info includes:
Code:
Read DVD-R : Yes
Read DVD-RW : Yes
Read DVD+R : No
Read DVD+RW : No
That means it can NOT read DVD+R or DVD+RW discs! Check the type of DVD disc you're using

Ah. This is probably the answer. I hope the new reader will read a rewritten disc. This is what I have on order.

Yep. The problem was it couldn't read DVD+ discs (the + or - after DVD makes a difference. You had an old drive that couldn't read DVD+ (whether DVD+R or +RW). All the new drives these days can read both DVD+ and DVD- , so shouldn't be a problem)

Installation help now needed. The LG* M-DISC arrived. I have no way to power it. Don't know if I need a Molex to 15 pin , and if so male or female? One slot on the back of the disc player is a SATA interface. The other looks like a long "L" shaped inlet. Is this the power port? Could one of you kind souls give me a description of the power adapter I need or shoot me a link to purchase the correct adapter?
