I have a Toshiba L305D S5895 laptop. Hdd=250, Mem=2GB, Windows Vista upgrd to Win7 Hm prem 64bit.
System power indicators does not light up except when both battery and AC are connected. When one of them (the Battery or the AC adapter) alone is plugged in, it does not light up.
When both is plugged and I hit the switch, it starts briefly showing the Toshiba logo and then shuts down and the light goes off. I have to unplug both batt and AC and reconnect them again to get the power lights up. Battery is abt 11% charge and the AC adapter is ok when I tested it on a multimeter.
I did a reset of BIOS by by pressing Switch for 30 secs before reconnecting power, but it did not help.
I need some help friends.

Hello Koofah. Welcome to the forum.

A dead or dying battery will cause this type of problem, and it will cause the problem even when the power supply is plugged in. So normally I would suggest replacing the battery.

What disturbs me is that the laptop does not run on the power supply with the battery removed (as I'm sure you already know). That raises the possibility that there is a defect in the power switching circuitry on the motherboard, and much more difficult problem to diagnose and fix.

There is a possibility that the power supply went bad and took the battery with it, rendering both devices defective at the same time. But that is a bit of a stretch.
Are you still using the original OEM power supply and battery that came with the laptop? How old are they?

It would be more likely if the PS & battery were aftermarket replacements.

WHAT U WANNA KNOW !!!
Batteryand AC adapter are about 3 yrs.
Strangely, aftr plugging for about 24 hrs the system booted up into windows and battery chrg showed 0% and charging. However the system shutdown abruptly after a few minutes. I noticed that my upgrade from vista actually did a dual-boot instead of a clean install. i pulled out the hdd and power up into cmos, but it stayed on briefly and shutdown.
I will chk out your suggestions and get back to you. thanks

searching for a faster duel core processor. AM2 socket.
I had the same problem with a Toshiba Satellite A215-S8537 but my issue was that the power cord was not fully plugged in, so when I was doing my homework, it had enough power to brighten the screen like it was plugged in and charging but it was actually draining the battery faster. And that is why mine would not turn on with just the power cord. There wasn't enough power to turn it on with no battery. After I noticed that the charger wasn't plugged in securely, I pushed it in more and haven't had the problem again. Did you look at the plug in the wall or power strip? It may be with that.

I had the same problem. It turned out to be a bad power cable that plugs into the wall.
