I formatted, and completed a clean of Win 7 Enterprise 32bit from Vista 32bit today. Since this was done, the touchpad dont work anymore. I installed the synaptic mouse driver from the hp homepage for my laptop, and restarted like 10 times, it still doesnt work.

Go to the device manager and check if there are devices there with yellow exclamation marks, under Mice and other pointing devices.

Try downloading the latest up to date drivers (v15.2.7) from the Synaptic website below.

Right click on the mouse entry in device manager and check what driver its showing. If its using the default MS driver, update the driver and use both options- search online as well as search my computer.

Though even with the default drivers, the basic functionality should work fine. Synaptics drivers only add extra features and options.

One of them is HID-compliant mouse from Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver,
and other one is HID-compliant mouse from Microsoft Windows USB Mouse(I connected a usb mouse for now).
I pressed on automatic update for both of those devices, and they say it is already up to date..

Try uninstalling the synaptic driver, reboot. Extract the downloaded synaptic driver to a folder on the hard drive. Now update the driver in device manager by pointing to that folder. You can repeat the exercise with the latest downloaded, extracted drivers (use the link in post #5 above).

Also check whether the touchpad is turned off- many laptops have a small button at the top of the touchpad to turn it on or off or check in the settings.

I just tried that, and it doesnt work. the touchpad button is colored ON (white) . if it was off, it should be red..

But the thing is even if i press the turn off/on button for the touchpad, it doesnt change to red and stays at white

I believe this is a driver issue for 2 reasons- one, in the device manager the correct synaptic driver is not seen installed, and two- the touchpad light not changing colour. I've used HP laptops for a long time and there is a similar issue in the mute button- unless the correct driver is installed, the colour does not toggle between blue and orange.

Try this method to completely remove old mouse drivers.

Exactly, thats what we are looking for. Now right click on that Synaptic PS2 and update the driver, try online first because in my experience that works most of the time. If it doesnt, go throught the drill of pointing it to the exxtracted drivers.

If none of that works, right click and uninstall, then click on the "scan for new hardware" button.

The exclamation mark means the driver may be corrupted. If reinstalling doesnt work, try to download and use a fresh copy of the driver.

I cant think of anything radical now. Maybe you can try the various procedures we went through in a different order with different drivers. Or it could be an HP quirk, so ask in the HP forums. Or maybe run a sfc scan to fix corrupted system files that may be involved.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

Also try booting in safe mode and uninstalling and reinstalling drivers there.
