Transfer speed slowing down

I noticed that when I copy many small or large files between my partitions, the speed is slowing down. It starts at about 100MB/s, then after a few secs goes to 60MB/s and after another 30 seconds slows down to 30MB/s. Is this normal, or do I have a problem somewhere?
Thanks in advance

Hi there,

What security software are you using ? Sometimes the security software might slow down the transfer speed. Try to turn it off and see if that makes any difference.

It is normal. Hard Drives only work in bursts. Fast then slow that is how mechanical HDDs work. Plus if you are moving thing across partitions on the same physical HDD that will slow it down as well.

Thanks for the answer. Is 30MB/s copying speed ok for a Western Digital WD1002FAEX 64MB 1TB drive?
