Trbl customizing desktop image

Trying to set up my new wallpaper (background)....
So, I found a cool image, then right-click, set as background. Easy enough, right? But the image is stretched. Went to control panel, personalization. Have attempted, many times, to change the background to 'full', 'fit', or 'tile' with no success. I even tried it on the wallpapers that come with the computer. So confused right now. I tried to click select all, then change it, then save. Then I've tried to click the image, then change it, then save, but every time it stays the same.
It really shouldn't be this difficult.
Thanks!

1366 x 768 is the monitor resolution. I don't know what the pic res was; I just found it online. Is there a way to tell? If it helps, it is a .bmp file, 292 KB. This laptop is primarily used for movies, so I don't want to have to change the res of the monitor if I don't have to.
Is there a specific type of wallpaper I'll need to search for to get it to work?
Thanks so much!
