TROUBLE logging into online gaming clients! Persistant problem

Hello!

Just recently I've had problems logging into online gaming clients for, eg. League of Legends and Gameranger. In both of these cases, I get an error saying something along the lines of "Couldn't connect to server".

These programs are allowed in my firewall, and I have never had this problem until this weekend, though it does not seem to disappear even after a reboot and reinstallation of the game clients. Tried running them as administrator too, to no avail.

What could be the problem here?

I would start with the obvious possible culprits. Are you behind a router? If so, you can try a direct connection to the modem to see if the router is causing issues. If the router is causing the issues, you may need to open ports or configure the router firewall. If you are not behind a router, you can try to disable the windows firewall just to see if you can connect to the server. If you are able to connect to the game server after disabling the windows firewall, then you may have to reconfigure the rules once you turn it back on ( do not leave it turned off ). Are you using your ISPs dns servers? If so, you could try giving Google DNS a try and report back to us if that helped. Is it possible that the game server is down for scheduled maintenance or perhaps your ISP is doing maintenance? If none of this helps there are other options to consider, but let's try all the obvious stuff first You can also try rebooting your router / modem too. Sometimes that works.
