Trouble on release/renew dynamic IP

i recently upgraded my system from windows xp sp2 to windows 7. and the very first thing i encountered problem is the use of ipconfig /release & ipconfig /renew unlike in windows xp, I only need to look at IPadd if it change from 192.xxx.xxx.xxx to 112.xxx.xxx.xxx then i will have an internet connection. But in win7 even it is change to 112 blah2x i still can't connect to the net and i observe that there are few "media disconnected" which i can;t really understand. I dont have a router, only a dsl modem and ive install the drivers correctly. Pls i need few guidelines for renewing IP from windows 7

Run a command prompt as Administrator, copy/paste

netsh winsock reset

Press enter, reboot and see if you can connect to the Internet now.
