So for some unknown reason for about a month now, every 20-24 hours without fail my computer will loose all connectivity and I will get the limited or no connectivity yellow icon. Only way to fix it is with a ipconfig /release followed by a ipconfig /renew, it is NOT the router, I have tried two routers at my house and it even did it while I was home for the holiday at my mothers. No idea why, but without fail it does it every day and the release renew is the only way I can fix it. Any ideas? Its getting a 169 IP address when it happens which im pretty sure means local to the router so im note sure. any settings I should check? Oh also i forgot to mention this happens on BOTH wireless and wired. Both are set to obtain ip and dns automatically and worked up until a month ago. Thanks for any info

Edit Browsing around I saw that alot of threads where recommending sfc /scannow, mine always stops at 5%, here is the log, have NO idea if it will help but w/e (in rar because too big for log type file)

Hi zocheyado,

Since the same issue occurs with the 'wired and wireless connection', it could be a 'corrupt firewall'. Please share the 'firewall' installed in the system. You may try to 'disable' the 'anti-virus / firewall' and see if that works.

Also check the performance of the internet in 'Safe Mode with Networking'.

In the mean while, you may also try to 'Reset IP' and 'Reset Winsock Catalogue'. You may find the following steps useful:
1. Click How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to run the 'Microsoft Fixit' and 'Reset Internet Protocol'
2. If the issue persists, also try type the following command in an 'Elevated Command Prompt' window: 'netsh winsock reset catalog' (without quotations)

For an 'Elevated Command Prompt' check this link: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/783-elevated-command-prompt.html

Hope this helps. Do reply if you have any further questions; would be glad to assist.

If you can't complete the sfc/scannow command you have bigger problems than just networking.

Try running a start up repair from the Windows CD, it usually takes three start up repairs to fix system file problems.

This problem can also be caused by a virus or malware so running a virus scan would be wise.

ipconfig/release: deassing current assigned ip address
ipconfig/renew: ask new ip address from dhcp server (=router)

release happens after 24 hours automatically and something 7 days. It depends how dhcp server has been configured. A few minutes before expiration he asks to extend the duration of that address automatically.
So if system powers off all of a sudden the ip address will be freed when expired on dhcp server.

in command prompt:
Code:
ipconfig/all>ip.txt

Post ip.txt
Delete ip.txt afterwards

Thanks for the tips, when I get home from work today I will try the startup repair for sfc /scannow and try uploading the ip log as you stated. Already tried the first posts suggestions, waiting to see if it helps or not

Nothing will help until you can pass that scan. :geek:
