I have started having the same problem that I had earlier this year. It turned out earlier this year there were too many tunnel adapters when IPCONFIG was run. An uninstall on iTunes FIXED it!

Now, the same thing is happening again, with only two tunnel adapters. The Network and Sharing Center tells me that either the default gateway is not available or the computer seems correctly connected but something is wrong with the DNS server. Sometimes the yellow triangle between the computer and network is there, sometimes the red x is there between the network and Internet, and sometimes both are there. Resetting the local area connection sometimes work and sometimes it doesn't.

Once I get the Internet working, I can leave it for 10/15 minutes, come back, and it's down again.

I can run IPCONFIG /Release and then IPCONFIG /Renew and it works nearly everytime. Sometimes I have to do this twice.

How can I fix it? I am running Windows 7, 64-bit operating system. I had a router, but the computer is now connected directly to the modem.

You should use the router, plug the modem into the WAN port on the router then connect your machine to the router.

You can usually access the router's page by typing 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 into the URL of your browser.

After that post the ipconfig/all here. :)

By the way, iTunes leaves a present behind called Bonjour, you will want to disable that in Windows services. It may show up as "ID string" with a bunch of numbers.
