trying to connect two computers, with windows 7

hi all, i cant seem to get second pc connected online over wired network with no router, says low connectivity & unidentified network, i connected just fine when i had window xp pro 32bit on frist pc, but when i install windows 7 on first pc, i could not connected online at all with second pc

For your Network setup, Did you choose HOMEGROUP or WorkNetwork ?

HOMEGROUP only works well between 2 or more Win7 computers.

Worknetwork works with Vista, Xp, Windows 2000 .

If you don't use the router, then u must have one PC wired to modem, and the other cross-cable to that PC, correct?

correct first pc has on board lan, with a added a pci-e intel lan card, second pc has built in dual onboard lan. trying to steer away from using home group cause ive found file sharing tranfer rate is real slow

docbrown everything looks correct from the pic u listed, expect for file sharing i have mine set to 128bit encryption, should i change that?. Thanks guys i appreciate the help so far

best thing to do is purchase a cheap 4-port router (don't need wireless unless you want it).

I'm not a fan of HomeGroup either.

If you have issue with pc directly connecting to the modem, this is a toughy cos usually your ISP's network (cable or ADSL) link to this modem. And if your modem has been setup by them, then more than likely they would know your network settings best. If the pc to the modem has NO issues with accessing the net, and you want to connect the other pc together, to share files follow this, from steps 1-6 (take no notice to how the first is connected to the internet, so long as it has).

got it all worked out, by right clicking into local area connection on pc one it wouldnt let me file share, until i went into services and turn a few things on exactly the same on both computers settings were remote, internet shareing ics and some other one i forget now, went back to local area connection then to properties clicked allow file sharing, after thet everything worked like normal when i was using windows xp, thank u all for the help i greatly appreciate it
