Trying to Delete Program Files, Access Denied

This entire morning thus far I've been attempting to delete files from Norton Internet Security, which has been inactive for a long time (we are not going to renew our account) and has been bugging us constantly. I assumed it would be an easy task, and I couldn't have been farther from the truth.

I went into the C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton Internet Security\ where the data for the program is found, and I couldn't delete the files. A dialogue saying
"You need permission to perform this action
You require permission from administrators to make changes to this folder"
I thought it weird, since I am one of the computer's administrators. Next, I logged on to my dad's profile (at his insistence, though there shouldn't be any difference in the administrator powers of our profiles). The same result followed.

Next, I looked online in a Google search and found this site, which told me to use the command prompt to first give me the ownership of the files, then give me complete permissions to the files, and then delete them. All three of these actions failed. The command prompt said "Access denied".

I tried a couple other command prompt actions, and all failed. I'm at a loss for what I'm supposed to do, or what I'm doing wrong. Does anyone know what the problem is?

Did you uninstall the program?
You can't just go in and start deleting the files without first uninstalling it either through Windows uninstall program or Nortons own uninstall option.

Thanks but that's exactly what I had tried... However, after following mgp1964's advice it worked! Thank you!

I did now. However, even through the command prompt I am still denied access to many files, even though I have ownership... :/

I have a hunch that it has something to do with me owning the Norton Internet Security folder, but not all of its subfolders and files... Is there a quick way to own EVERY file and folder in a directory?

Use the Norton Removal Tool https://www-secure.symantec.com/nor...10133834EN&product=home&version=1&pvid=f-home
You might have to right click and choose to run as Administrator.
