Trying to delete a primary partition in diskmanagement - Access Denied

I have confirmed that I have admin privileges. The HDD in question is a small 80gb HDD with a 75 gb primary partition. When trying to delete the partition with diskmanagement or diskpart, it just says Access Denied. Currently I can not provide a screenshot, not for the next couples of hours. This disk is not a primary drive, its never used. The partition is formatted in NTFS, and it has a small OEM partition of a few hundred MBs. I want to clear the disk of any data so I can use it for a linux install. This is also my first post, I intend to make my home here when asking the community windows related questions/problems. If this was not formatted well please let me know.

Hello Torrey, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If the HDD doesn't have anything on it that you want to keep, then you could see if running the clean command on the drive from within an "elevated" command prompt to completely wipe it will allow you to format it afterwards to use as you like.

that means the disk has something within that's still being used by the operating system and cannot be formatted. you can try converting it to extended partition if possible, then after reformat you can turn it to active again. or if you're sure there's nothing inside the partition being used by windows, you can delete and format through dos. there are many tools out there for this, even linux live cd has this feature too.
