Solved Trying to reformat my hard drive.

My computer freezes after about a minute, so i was going to a total reformat but when i boot from the cd drive, and go into the advanced options, it wont let me delete or format my hard drive. Its just greyed out, along with delete. Any ideas?

Also, sorry if i posted in the wrong section, im not a computer wizz and it was quite confusing

You havent filled in your system specs, this may be helpful. When you say it freezes do you mean before or after logon? are you getting to desktop?

Please post a pic of your disk management view using snip tool. Right click my computer>manage>disk management

I havent filled out my specs because i have no idea what they are . I was giving this computer. i cant do anything on the computer, after i log on and im on the desktop after i would say about 30 seconds it completely freezes and i have to hard boot it. Im currently on a family members laptop, i was told by a friend that it might be a virus, so i was planning on completely cleaning it.

Hello rarename The System Info for Windows tool is a great free program for finding out just what softwares as well as hardwares are installed on your system.

One thing you can try before wiping the drive unless the installation was already running into numerous problems that would require a clean install to start over would be a run of the Check Disk tool.

You can schedule that for the C drive either by opening up a command prompt first right clicking on the Start>Programs>Accessoriescommand prompt icon to select "run as administrator" and typing the "chkdsk /r" command at the prompt. R for fix being the switch added onto the end of the command to schedule a run for the next start up.

Or you can right click on the drive's icon in Windows Explorer and open up the Tools tab to click on the "Check Now" button. Note the screen attached.

Often once a drive sees errors the tool will help with freeze ups provided it isn't device driver related where removing and reinstalling driver(s) fresh will resolve a start hang situation when a driver loads sideways when first starting up.
