Hi , I am running windows 7 home edition , I want to run a program twice , so I read up about creating a 2nd account on my system...

so for example , I setup a standard account (all lowercase) paul2508 as the user name and set a 8 character password.

I checked that the account was created , I rebooted my PC , logged in as paul2508 using my regular password.

all worked fine.

I then logged back into my main admin account , I hold down shift , click the right mouse button , it pops up "windows security" Run as different user , please enter credentials to use for c:\ etc etc

so in User name , I type in paulmw2508 , i then enter my very easy to remember and well used by me password,

But I always receive the message "logon failure: unknown user name or bad password"

I have tried the same process and setting the paulmw2508 account as a admin

I have also tried logging in as paul2508 and trying to run as a different user using my admin account on my system.....same message "logon failure"

Yet I can log on to each account at sign up as windows loads , no issues at all user name and password work perfectly...straight into desktop.....

one thing I have noticed is that underneath the user name and login , it says "Domain:PAULWORK-PC" which I presume is simply just the main name of my computer on the network or something similar.

Please help !!! it seems so simple , yet so difficult !!!!

Welcome to the forum. Check PC name if it is domain Windows may think you are on a domain which may mean it doesn't have a password. You normally if you right click on a file and rinse get a list to choose from
