Solved trying to select my current time zone

Every time I try to select my current time zone from the time zone box windows keeps sliding it back to the first one in the list. And this is on a fresh install on a fresh solid state drive!. It's making me crazy!!

Hello Matt mate I would first off do a sfc and if necessary a chkdsk
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
Disk Check < if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2
Run these in safe mode and the sfc often best run for two to three runs – you can leave out the /r switch in ckdsk if you feel it not necessary

But what about the fact this is a completely fresh install on a brand new solid state drive? I mean what would cause this?

When you set the time zone are you clicking the Apply Button when you back out of setting it. When you set the Time Zone you click OK to back out, but then you need to click the Apply button before exiting. Sometimes a restart after changing a setting will lock it in.

that has nothing to do with it ranger. The issue is like i said; the selection box with the list of time zones keeps scrolling back up to the first one in the list by itself every time i try to choose my time zone. Can anyone else shed light on this and have a idea what to do to fix this. I hope its not my motherboard becauase replacing that is a $$$$ proposition for which I do not have the $ for and wont anytime soon.

Matt then if it is a new SSD and the install is fresh then maybe there is something amiss with the media you are installing from.

It did occur to me too that if this were me I would start from scratch in case there had been a glitch in the first instance - a pain I grant you but as you are not that far into the install (am assuming here) then what have you got to lose apart from a lot of time tracking down this issue.

This is making me crazy!!! I can't select anything without it reverting back to the original choice. The time zone keeps recerting back to international date line west even while trying to select Arizona. It will not let me select anything!! I've tried twice now installing from scratch and the issue is still there. Someone please help me before I take a sledgehammer to this thing.

Do you have any Linux installed?

Have you set the proper time and date in bios?

Does it do it if you strictly use the keyboard, unplug the mouse, til it takes.

Everything can be done with the keyboard, and as Mike has hinted it sounds like the mouse is the culprit.

thanks for the help everyone!!! problem is solved. Somehow; windows all the sudden started acting normal again after I put new batteries in both my wireless keyboard and wireless mouse; then turned both of them completely off for like 5 minutes I believe; then turned them back on and it was back to normal again. I guess there must have been some sort of interference or something that temporairily caused both the keyboard and mouse to go crazy on me. But problem is solved for now. (hopefully it wont happen again anytime soon knock on wood)

Being wireless, weak batteries = weak signal = confusion to the receiver.

Glad to see alls up and working now. I had no the mouse and KB were wifi I took them to be wired

I suppose just goes to show that things can be very convoluted or simple. I shy away from wifi mice and KB"S where I can because of the interference they can be influenced by unless I suppose you work with 5GHz devices, and I use Blu tooth which I find that much easier and negate the need for that wretched dongle which takes up a port and as I found on my New Zealand trip break off quite easily.
